The Stuc a’Chroinn 5000 is one of the classic Scottish hill
races. Starting in Strathyre, the route goes up then down then up again, up
Beinn Each to the west ridge of Stuc a’Chroinn, up to the top and then back
down again. Many Harriers have done the race, and this year it was Rhian’s
turn. It's a bit of a beast at the best of times, and this year's race certainly wasn't the best of times to be doing it for the first time. In what sounded like truly appalling weather, with marshals and runners
having to be evacuated from the hill, Rhian put in a terrific performance to
finish in 3.25.47, just missing out on a top 10 place by 10 seconds, but
picking a prize for first local woman and 30 very good points in the SHR
Championships.
