Another busy weekend saw with juniors running at the Lomonds
of Fife hill race, and ten of the seniors resuming battle in the club
championship at the Balfron 10k.
For the juniors, Levi proved that big brother Sol isn’t the
only talent in the house by winning the under-13 boys race. Levi led the race
from start to finish, and ran strongly to hold off the fast-finishing Gavin
McWhinnie from Fife AC over the closing stages, winning the race in a record
time. In the same race, Keir was third and Duthac was fifth. In the under-13
girls race, Ally ran well to finish in a very good third position.
In the under-15 races, Catriona and Lewis finished third in
the girls and boys races respectively to give the Harriers Juniors a highly
successful day out.
Meanwhile, over at Balfron, in the shadows of the Campsie
Fells, Patrick led the way for the Harriers, finishing first in the MV50 category
and eighth overall, in a good time of 37.51 on a challenging course with an
awkward hill and headwind over the closing stages. I was second Harrier home,
albeit some way distant, finishing third in the MV50 category and 41st overall
in a time of 42.11. Third Harrier Gordon was also flying the flag for the
over-50s, finishing in a time of 45.39. For the women, Maddy continued her
successful transition from the junior races to win the Female Junior category
(for runners over 16), finishing just a few seconds behind Gordon. Next woman
home was Maddy’s mum Nicola, followed by Ali M.
Also racing on Sunday was Jonathan Beck, in the Heaven and
Hell Half Marathon, near Scone. The Heaven and Hell race is no ordinary half,
and features a lot of hilly running. Jonathan is in training for the Strathearn
Marathon, and his time in the Heaven and Hell Half of 1.37 is a fine warm-up
for the big event.
