While the adults were doing their thing at Alloa, some of
the Harriers Junior Development squad were in action at the Junior Road Race
Championships at Heriot-Watt University. At stake were invitations to the
Junior Mini-Marathon which precedes the Flora London Marathon in April.
First to race was Catriona in the Under-13 girls. She had one
of her best races for the club, running strongly all the way to the finish,
despite, as Phil put it, a hair-band malfunction. Next were the Under-13 boys
with Lewis storming home to a top 20 finish and showing he is coming back to
form. Levi showed that his good effort at Gartmorn was no fluke and that his
big brother is not the only Sweeney boy looking to make waves. Keir had a
really gutsy run, while Fraser ran a sensible race to halfway and then worked
his way up through the field taking quite a few places in the final run in.
In the Under-15 boys, Sol exceeded his goal of a top 6 finish by coming in 4th and securing his invitation to the London Mini Marathon. Angus stuck well to the game plan running the first half cautiously before giving it everything in the 2nd half and picking up lots of places along the way.
Finally Maddy ran in the Under-17 girls and showed what excellent progress she has made in the last year or so. She finished in 10th place and was never that far behind the leading pack throughout the race.

The official announcement of Sol’s selection for Scotland at
the London Mini-Marathon came on Tuesday. This is a terrifically exciting
development for the club, and huge credit must go to Sol and everyone involved
with the Juniors. We’ll all be glued to the telly on April 28!
