Devil's Burdens

In the event, only two teams of Harriers ran in this year's Devil's Burdens Relay Race on Jan 27th, after a high number of call-offs through injury.

Graham made an early and unfortunate bid for the club's new annual award - Least Plausible but Actually True Reason for Not Running - with "whiplash from a car crash in Italy after a week's ice-climbing". Nice one!

However, once again the weather on the day was excellent, the footing good and the soup afterwards outstanding.
In a field of over 100 teams, up from 70 something last year, the men's team finished 19th in just under 3 hours, with a great 63 minute leg 3 by Will and Digby. The women's team finished in just over 4 hours, delayed slightly by a wee navigational wobbly.

An enjoyable day out was rounded off for some by a curry in Crieff in the evening.

More race details to follow when the full results are published.

Love the new blog and honoured to have the first photo of me! Shame I look so totally wrecked!

The provisional results are already up on the Fife AC Bulletin Board (http://uk.geocities.com/resultsguru@btinternet.com/burdensprovresults2007.htm) but a cursory glance suggests they will need some tweaking!

Well done to everyone especially the women's team. Ali and Karen got us off to a fantastic start on the 1st leg followed by Shelagh the downhill specialist who can always be relied upon to perform her best. It was great to have Cathy and Fran on the difficult third leg who unfortunatley found the gully off West Lomond elusive! I took the easy option on leg 4 but realy enjoyed the run and was great to have such support at the end.
Thanks to Philip T and Gordon for ferrying us around Fife and putting up with our nattering and muddy shoes in the car! Looking forward to next year already!

Great way to communicate, well done Gordon! To get two teams after all the injuries and illnesses was a great effort. Well done to Liz and Phil for coping with the headache of all the team changes over the last week or so. The race was great, loved it. Thank you Karen for your encouragement near the end of our leg! It was a pleasure running with you.

Sounds like a good performance by all concerned, well done! Apologies I had to bow out at the last minute- hope it didn't cause too many headaches. Sadly, having a maniac in a Nissan X-trail ram into the back of my fiesta at approx. 60mph on an Italian motorway put pay to my hopes of competing! Anyway... my neck is recovering and will hopefully see you all for a run in the near future!
